Terrarium Singapore are a great way to bring the beauty and tranquility of nature into your home. Terrarium plants can be tricky though, as not all plants will grow well in these small environments. Terrariums require certain conditions that may not be found in every climate or region. In this blog post we explore 7 types of plants that thrive in terrariums (and make really pretty decorations).

1. Artillery Fern (P. microphylla)

The true ferns are Pileaceae. They are referred to as artillery ferns since they project their seed in a popping manner—and sometimes quite a distance. Despite that characteristic, these plants are delicate and have an appealing texture. It should be simple to cultivate and thrive with minimal care.

  • Light: Medium to bright indirect light
  • Water: Medium
  • Color: Insignificant bloom

2. Polka Dot Plant (Hypoestes phyllostachya)

The polka dot plant, also known as the mother-in-law's tongue, is another great option for Terrarium Plants. This plant has a velvety texture and can grow up to 3 feet tall. The flowers are small but produce drops of nectar.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light
  • Water: Regularly in spring and summer; less at other times
  • Color: Green leaves with white markings

3. Pothos (Epipremnum aureum)

The Pothos plant is a great Terrarium Plant and grows well in Terrariums. The reputation of golden pothos as a bulletproof, indestructible houseplant is well-deserved, and it's even more true in the controlled setting of a terrarium. Trim it back on a regular basis to keep it under control, and your pothos will last for years. It's also simple to propagate by

  • Light: Bright, indirect light
  • Water: Relatively little water; do not overwater
  • Color: Green leaves with white markings

4. Baby Tears (Soleirolia soleirolii)

The name and description of this plant varies according to the source. The plant is also known as angel's tears, mind-your-own-business, peace-in-the-home, Pollyanna vine, mother of thousands, and the Corsican's curse.

The curse might be a warning about how, under specific circumstances, baby's tears may become extremely invasive and take over entire gardens. However, not to worry, it will behave itself in a terrarium and is a beautiful low-growing plant.

  • Light: Bright light
  • Water: Consistent moisture
  • Color: Creamy ivory flowers

5. Button Fern (Pellaea rotundifolia)

Button Fern has thin-textured leaves that are soft to the touch and beautiful to look at. They grow flat on the ground and can be difficult to discern from other plants in an outdoor garden.

  • Light: Full shade to filtered light
  • Water: Water weekly
  • Color: Green foliage

6. Croton (Codiaeum variegatum)

The croton is a stunning Terrarium Plant. A croton Terrarium Plant has many variations, of which the C. variegatum is one of the more beautiful. They are native to South America and grow well either planted directly in Terrariums or as an epiphyte. Taking care of them is also very easy, as they are tolerant of dry conditions and can thrive without much water at all.

  • Light: Bright indirect, dappled light
  • Water: Water occasionally
  • Color: Green, gold, and salmon foliage

7. Prayer Plant (Maranta leuconeura)

The Red-veined Prayer Plant is a breathtaking plant. The prayer plant's name stems from the fact that it folds up its leaves at night, looking like it is in prayer. If you don't give your prayer plants enough sunlight, you'll be able to tell since their leaves will remain folded even during the day.

  • Light: Medium, indirect light
  • Water: Regularly in spring and summer; less at other times
  • Color: Green leaves with white markings
